Let Me Introduce Myself

Before I get into introducing myself and talking about all the benefits of having a communications professional help you,  let me clear the air about something:

I hate writing. Well, really,  I hate writing about myself.

I do it all the time. It comes with the industry and there is no way of avoiding it. When I started studying communications in college, I didn't think I would be able to make my way in PR,  let alone graduate. I was the first one to attend college in my family and at times felt like I had no idea what I was doing. But with anything you do in life, practice makes perfect. In three years since graduating college, I've come a long way and am just now starting to feel like I'm gaining a grasp on what I love to do.

Since I've entered the working world, I've worked for three agencies, launched two businesses and taught at the university level. That's a long way from trying to figure out what AP style is and even being told by one employer I don't have a future in PR.

But here's the thing, I love helping people. I love being able to tell someone's story and share it with new audiences. I love figuring out the first steps in launching a business. The excitement I get when I work with a client to take an idea into something totally achievable, something that has the potential to create a positive impact on others. This is why I love what I do. It's about people, about you.

I love working as a freelancer. Setting my own hours, and owning the flexibility in working on client work and living my own life is a dream. Yes, there are always inevitable challenges to freelance work, but the benefits outweigh them.

I want this blog to be a resource to anyone looking to start a business or wants to work for themselves. It will feature tips on ways you can incorporate communications into your brand, guest author articles to offer perspective and maybe show a behind the scenes look into what I do. As time goes on, my hope to evolve this into a place for collaboration and idea cultivation for anyone ready to take on a challenge.

If you have any suggestions on blog topics or any questions, feel free to comment or message me!

Cheers,

James
