Keep Calm and Hire a PR Specialist
Focus on Your Business, and Leave the Rest to a PR Specialist
I had a great call with a potential client last week. It was with a tattoo artist who is looking to build his brand through social media, specifically Instagram. We talked about different strategies and goals that he wanted to tackle. For example, how he wanted to grow his business especially during tax refund season (I never would have thought that this is one of the busiest times of the year for tattoo shops). He admitted to me that he had almost no idea what he was doing when it came to managing an Instagram account let alone what kind of content he should share. And guess what, that’s okay! A tattoo artist doesn’t have to know the ends and outs of managing social media accounts, or when to post and how to capture and share content. He should focus on what he does best: designing tattoos!
Entrepreneurship is no easy task. Running any business takes courage, patience and commitment. As a small business owner, you want to keep costs down and focus on growth. But it takes money to make money, and if you are not willing to invest in professionals to do certain services for you, then you will end up spending more money fixing mistakes you could have avoided.
I’ll be the first to admit as I did on the call last week: I have no idea how to work as a tattoo artist. I don’t know how to run a restaurant or bar. I’m the worst handyman and can’t change the oil in my car. What I do know is what kind of content a tattoo artist would want to share on Instagram. What I can do is help a restaurant with a media tour of their new location. What I do know how to do is build a promoted ad campaign for a local auto mechanic to attract new customers.
Media relations, both traditional and digital, are essential services for your business. Building strategic relationships with local media can help establish trust, brand recognition and generate word of mouth opportunities. Engaging with a social media marketing campaign, or promoted ads, can help you edge out over your competition and keep your business running.
The bottom line is this: time is money. The more time you spend on trying to focus on things that spread you thin and take you away from your product will cost you money. Instead of thinking about hiring someone to help you write a press release or run your social media, schedule a time to talk and let’s get it right the first time.
P.S. It feels so GOOD to be back updating my blog. Sorry for the long lapse in posts, more to come soon!
